Substitute Staff

If you are interested in subbing in the district as a:

  • Substitute Teacher
  • Substitute Education Support Professional
  • Substitute Custodian
  • Substitute Office Professional

you need to go on-line to complete a substitute application.   You can apply on-line by going to www.bhmschools.org, then scroll to the bottom of the page to select JOB OPPORTUNITIES > CURRENT OPENINGS & ONLINE APPLICATION > then select START AN APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT (if you have no application on file in our district) -or- CONTINUE/MODIFY MY APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT (if you have previously applied for another position in our district.  Call 763-682-8712 if you need a reminder of your e-mail/ID or password)

Once you are in your application, please complete pages 1 and 2, then on page 3 be sure to check the box for the appropriate substitute position you are interested in.  

TIP:   If you just check "substitute," your application should take you no longer than 15-20 minutes to complete.  If you check additional boxes, you will get a much longer application.  If the application seems too long, go back and look at what you checked then uncheck any unnecessary boxes.  You can always edit and add positions to your application at a later time.

After completing the first 3 pages, proceed and answer the remaining questions on the application.  Be sure to SUBMIT your application once you are done.  Once your application has been submitted, please follow these steps to complete the sub process:

  1. After submitting your on-line application, please complete the Background Authorization Form (shown below), then mail your background authorization form and payment to HR at the address shown below. 
  2. After your background authorization form and payment have been received and processed, we will then contact you via e-mail to let you know you can now attend the next sub orientation.  Please do not attend an orientation until you have heard from us that your background check has cleared.  Orientations will be held once/week at the district office and last approximately 15-30 minutes.

Substitute Employees - Criminal Background Check (PDF - 626.8 KB)

PRINT & MAIL TO HR - If you are a substitute teacher, or sub ESP, custodian, food service, or office sub applicant, you must complete a criminal background authorization form before you can begin work in the district.  Please print and complete the attached form, then submit your completed copy, along with a check made payable to ISD 877, as follows:

I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form

PRINT & BRING TO HR DURING YOUR SCHEDULED ORIENTATION - If you are a substitute teacher, sub ESP, custodian, food service, or office sub applicant, please read and complete the attached I-9 form.  Once complete, please print, sign, and bring this form to HR during your scheduled orientation.  

 

NOTE:  Two forms of identification must accompany this form.  Acceptable documents are listed on page 5 of the form, but most employees find it convenient to bring the following:

  • Drivers License + social security card
  • Drivers license + birth certificate
  • US Passport (this serves as both forms of ID but cannot be expired)

Please note you only need to print and bring in page 4 - you do not need to print the entire document.

If you area SUBSTITUTE TEACHER, please review the attached Substitute Teacher Handbook.  You do NOT need to print the handbook, but you should know where it's located as it contains phone numbers, school locations and hours, payroll schedule, school calendar, suggestions for classroom management, etc.  All things that may be very useful during your substitute teaching career at Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Schools.
