The BHM School District is seeking both parent and community representatives to serve on the District/Community Teaching & Learning Council for the 2011-12 school year.  Meetings will be held the first Friday of the month from October through April, from 7-8:30 a.m. at the Discovery Center (please note morning meeting time).

Phoenix Learning Center was awarded $5,000 for their 3rd place finish in the Green Sneakers contest by collecting 340 pounds of used tennis shoes for people in third-world countries.

BCMS Assistant Principal Hired

Buffalo Community Middle School (BCMS) just announced their new assistant principal is Jeff Erickson who is currently serving as Dean of Students/Science Teacher at Annandale Middle School. Erickson will replace Matt Lubben who will be the new BCMS Principal. Both positions begin on July 1.

Superintendent Search to Begin

School Exec Connect Hired to Search for a Replacement by June 30

During a special school board meeting following the workshop session, on Monday, April 12, the board heard presentations by two superintendent search firms: BKB and School Exec Connect. The board approved School Exec Connect to conduct the search for the next superintendent to replace Jim Bauck who is leaving June 30 for Eastern Carver County School District in Chaska.

Becker's Gary Kawlewski to Replace Chuck Klaassen July 1, 2010

Out of a list of impressive candidates, Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Schools (BHM) chose a 23-year veteran in school finances to take over the position as the district's director of finance and operations. Gary Kawlewski, who is currently serving as the director of business services in the Becker Public Schools, will replace current BHM director of finance and operations Chuck Klaassen on July 1.

Fresh out of college in 1993 from Minnesota State University - Moorhead, Kris Thompson was hired to teach physical education at Buffalo High School (BHS). After being gone for two years, BHM has hired her back to serve as an assistant principal for BHS.

New Faces at Buffalo Community Middle School and Parkside Elementary (PDF - 290.17 KB)

Buffalo High School Assistant Principal Matt Lubben transferred to the open assistant principal position at Buffalo Community Middle School (BCMS). That position was made vacant by Shane Thielke who was set to move, as a part of budget reductions, from his position as Parkside Elementary Principal. Over the summer Thielke accepted another opportunity outside the district.

Students Improve on Graduation Tests (PDF - 291.61 KB)

Students at Buffalo High School (BHS) outperformed the Minnesota average on graduation tests that were administered this spring. BHS sophomores (83 percent) met the state's reading requirement on their first attempt by earning a proficient score on MCA-II (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments) or by earning a passing score on the GRAD (Graduation-Required Assessments for Diploma).

The BHM School Board approved the appointment of Joy Kieffer as the new Special Education Services Director at the Monday, June 22 school board meeting.  Kieffer replaces Judy Coley who retired June 30 after a 30-year career with the district.
